Seedfolk is a cozy isometric botany game about curiosity, collection and the pull of one more mystery seed. Built with Phaser 4 by developer Zackabrah from junklabgames, the game is currently in pre-alpha and available to playtest on itch.io. The core loop is simple and deliberately gentle: plant, discover, record, harvest, repeat.

The Seedfolk Discovery Loop

Every session starts with a Mystery Seed: a sealed little question. You pick one from your pouch, choose a prepared plot and the garden answers. Each reveal adds a new species to your Field Journal and opens up what the garden can ask of you next. The goal is not a sprawling farm but a cosy loop of curiosity turning into discovery.

  • Plant a Mystery Seed and choose a plot.
  • Discover which species it becomes when it grows.
  • Record it in the Field Journal with species notes and harvest history.
  • Inspect crops for growth, care needs and harvest readiness.
  • Complete Village Notes and Farmers Market requests with your harvest.
  • Earn Garden Supplies and more seeds to keep experimenting.

What the Pre-Alpha Playtest of Seedfolk Covers

The current build focuses on the first playable route: the opening discovery loop. You can explore how Mystery Seeds, the Field Journal, Village Notes, harvests and rewards all connect. It's intentionally small while the game is still growing, and its job is to test whether curiosity, reveal, record, harvest and reward already feel satisfying together.

Controls are entirely mouse-driven. Select tools or items from the UI, then click plots to plant, inspect, harvest and continue the loop.

The developer is actively seeking feedback from playtesters: whether you understood what to do first, whether the reveal made you want another seed, and whether the journal and reward loop made sense. A short feedback survey is linked below.

What's Coming Next for Seedfolk

Seedfolk is being built outward from its core discovery loop. Planned additions include more Mystery Seed discoveries (unusual crops, herbs, flowers and rare botanical surprises), richer Field Journal entries with specimen art and collection goals, and expanded Village Notes and request boards. Later releases are planned to explore genetics, seed lineages, rare variants, crossbreeding and mutation once the discovery loop is fully proven.

Play the Pre-Alpha and Help It Grow

Free to play on itch.io, no install needed. If you give it a try, the developer would love to hear what felt cosy, confusing or made you want to plant one more seed. The feedback survey takes about 5 to 8 minutes and covers the Mystery Seed loop, the Field Journal, harvesting, rewards and onboarding.
