Bomber Bunnies: A Tribute to Xplosive for Up to Four Players, Built with Phaser
Drop bombs, clear stages and watch out for the Mimic that hides as a stone tile.

Bomber Bunnies is a fast-paced arcade bomber for one to four players, built with Phaser by WeeAngusMcDread and released on itch.io in May 2026. It is a tribute to the classic DOS game Xplosive, with a retro neon look and a simple promise: drop bombs, clear stages, and don't get eaten.
How Bomber Bunnies Plays: Bombs, Soft Walls and Powerups
You navigate maze-like stages, blow up soft walls to find powerups, and eliminate every enemy to advance. The powerups include bomb upgrades, blast radius boosts, speed carrots, a kick ability, extra lives, and time freeze. Not every surprise is a gift, though: some powerups reverse your controls, shorten your fuses, or slow you down.
Eight Enemy Types, from Wanderers to the Mimic
There are eight enemy types with distinct behaviors. You will meet mindless Wanderers, bomb-eating Chompers, web-spinning Spiders, and the terrifying Mimic, which hides as a stone tile until you get too close.
Local Multiplayer, Seed Sharing and Infinite Levels
- 1-4 local multiplayer: Player 1 uses the arrow keys and Space, Player 2 uses WASD and E, and Players 3 and 4 use gamepads
- Procedurally generated maps with seed sharing: type in a friend's seed and play the same map
- Three difficulty modes
- Infinite levels with escalating challenge
- Attract mode
Controls are configurable, and the game accepts keyboard and any gamepad. The game is dedicated to late-night pistachios and Mambo No. 5.
There is one more thing for developers. frityz, as the creator is known in the Phaser Discord, has also extracted the whole layer of the game as semantic DOM, so it can be used with testing libraries like Playwright or Selenium for automated tests, and has shared a video about it for anyone who is interested.
Bomber Bunnies was made with Phaser, Adobe Photoshop, and Piskel, and no generative AI was used in the game.
