Witherheart is another highlight from our February showcase of games made with Phaser. Developed by Burning Pawn, it is a roguelite deck-building game that takes clear inspiration from Slay the Spire and adds a layer of tactical depth that sets it apart: a grid-based battlefield where positioning matters as much as the cards in your hand.
Slay the Spire Meets Tactical Strategy
If you have spent time with Slay the Spire, the core loop of Witherheart will feel familiar. You build and refine a deck of cards over the course of a run, making strategic decisions about which cards to keep, discard, and play in combat. But where most deck-builders confine combat to menus and numbers, Witherheart puts you on a battlefield.
Battles unfold on a grid where every move counts. Positioning yourself well can mean the difference between absorbing a heavy hit and avoiding it entirely. You are not just thinking about which card to play next, you are thinking about where to be when you play it.

Thoughtful Decision-Making at Every Step
The game blends deck management with spatial awareness in a way that rewards careful thinking. Choosing the wrong card at the wrong moment is costly enough in a standard deck-builder. In Witherheart, playing it from the wrong position on the grid can be just as punishing.
Procedural generation keeps each run fresh, and the dark fantasy setting gives the whole experience a brooding visual tone that fits the tension of the gameplay well. Sessions are designed to be relatively short, making it easy to jump in for a quick run or chain several together.

Still in Development
Witherheart is currently in active development and available to play directly in your browser. It carries a perfect rating from its early players, which is a promising sign for a game still finding its final shape. Feedback from the community is very welcome.
