The Reddit Games and Puzzles Challenge kicked off today and gives Phaser developers a great chance at winning a slice of the $116,000 prize money on offer. The challenge? To create a word or puzzle game using Reddit's Developer Platform.
They are looking for apps that "leverage interactive posts", making this an exciting opportunity for developers to showcase their creativity and skills. Your game should be designed to bring together a community of users. Think massively multiplayer. Make use of flair, comments, leaderboards, or other Reddit-y mechanics. Phaser developers specifically will want to take advantage of their Webview component which provides "the full power of the web in a single page application sandbox. This means you can show websites, HTML content, or other web-based resources without needing to leave the app.". This is an alternative to Devvit Blocks, which is the more common way to create apps for Reddit, but are restricted to pure HTML/CSS only.
Submission Requirements
To participate, developers must submit their projects by the deadline date of December 18th 2024. Submissions should include:
- A functional game or puzzle that can be accessed and played by users in a subreddit.
- A demo post including a link to your test subreddit
- A short 1 minute video showing a walkthrough of your app.
Of course, don't forget to join the Phaser subreddit to show us your progress!
